Ativan Overview
Ativan (generic: lorazepam) is a prescription medication used to treat anxiety disorders, symptoms of anxiety, and anxiety associated with depression. Ativan belongs to a group of drugs called benzodiazepines, which has a sedating effect on brain activity.
This medication comes in tablet form and can be taken 1 to 3 times per day, with or without food.
Common side effects of Ativan include sedation, weakness, and unsteadiness, and these may be seen more frequently with age.
Ativan can cause dizziness and drowsiness. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how Ativan affects you.
