Butrans Overview
Butrans (generic: buprenorphine) is a prescription medication used to treat moderate to severe, chronic, around-the-clock pain that will last a long period of time. Butrans belongs to a group of drugs called opioid partial agonist-antagonists, which help to relieve pain by binding to certain opioid receptors in the body.
This medication comes in skin patch form and is usually applied for a week at a time.
Some of the common side effects of Butrans include constipation, nausea, and headache. Butrans can cause dizziness and drowsiness. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how Butrans will affect you. Do not drink alcohol while taking this medication.
