Depakote Overview

Depakote (generic: divalproex) is a prescription medication used to treat seizures, manic episodes for those with bipolar disorder, and to prevent migraines. Depakote belongs to a group of drugs called antiepileptic agents. These work by maintaining balance and stability of brain activity.

This medication comes in sprinkle capsule and tablet forms. It is typically taken 1 to 2 times a day, with or without food.

Common side effects of Depakote include upset stomach, constipation or diarrhea, nausea, and headache.

Depakote can cause dizziness or blurred vision. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how Depakote affects you.
