Emtriva Overview

Emtriva (generic: emtricitabine) is a prescription medication used to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infections in adults and children.  Emtriva belongs to a group of drugs called nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTI), which decrease the amount of HIV in the blood.

This medication comes in capsule and oral solution (liquid) forms. It is taken once a day, with or without food.

Common side effects of Emtriva include headache, diarrhea, nausea and dizziness.
