Famvir Overview
Famvir (generic: famciclovir) is a prescription medication used to treat outbreaks of cold sores, genital herpes, and shingles (herpes zoster) in adults. It is also used to decrease the number of outbreaks of genital herpes and herpes simplex.
Famvir belongs to a group of drugs called antivirals. It works by stopping the spread of the herpes virus in the body.
This medication comes in tablet form and is taken up to 3 times a day, with our without food.
Common side effects of Famvir include headache and nausea.
