Glucophage XR
Glucophage XR Overview
Glucophage XR (generic: metformin) is a prescription medication used to treat type 2 diabetes. Glucophage XR belongs to a group of drugs called biguanides. It works by helping your body respond better to the insulin it makes naturally, decreasing the amount of sugar your liver makes, and decreasing the amount of sugar your intestines absorb.
This medication comes in an extended-release tablet form and is taken once a day, with an evening meal. There is another form of this medication called Glucophage that is taken 2 to 3 times daily.
Common side effects of Glucophage XR include diarrhea, nausea, and upset stomach.
