Keppra
Overview
Keppra (levetiracetam) is a type of anticonvulsant medication that is primarily used for the treatment and prevention of epileptic siezures. It has also been used experimentally in some cases to treat psychiatric disorders such as bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, and Tourette syndrome, however these are off-label uses and more research needs to be done. It can be taken as a pill for daily use and management, or given as an intravenous solution for epileptic emergencies.
The exact mechanism of how Keppra works is currently unknown, but it is believed to bind to a protein in the nerve synapses that impedes communication.
