Lipitor Overview

Lipitor (generic: atorvastatin) is a prescription medicine used to treat high cholesterol levels and to prevent heart disease. Lipitor belongs to a group of drugs called HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, also known as statins, which help lower cholesterol levels.

This medication comes in tablet form and is usually taken once a day, with or without food.

Common side effects of Lipitor include diarrhea, upset stomach, and muscle and joint pain.
