Mekinist Overview

Mekinist (generic: trametinib) is a prescription medication used to treat melanoma, a dangerous type of skin cancer, that has spread to other parts of the body and cannot be removed by surgery. Specifically, Mekinist is approved to treat people with melanoma whose tumors have certain gene mutations known as the BRAF V600E or the V600K gene mutation. 

Mekinist comes in tablets to be taken once daily. Take this medication on an empty stomach.

Common side effects of Mekinist include diarrhea and swelling of the face, arms, and legs.
