Metaglip (generic: glipizide/metformin) is a prescription medicine used to treat type 2 diabetes. Metaglip is a single tablet containing 2 prescription medications, glipizide and metformin. Glipizide lowers blood sugar primarily by causing more of the body’s own insulin to be released. Metformin lowers blood sugar, in part, by helping the body to use insulin more effectively. Together, they are efficient in helping patients achieve better glucose control.

This medication comes in tablet form and is usually taken once or twice daily with food.

Common side effects of Metaglip include diarrhea and nausea.
