Nucynta ER (generic: tapentadol) is a prescription medication used to treat moderate to severe, around-the-clock pain. Nucynta ER belongs to a group of drugs called opioid analgesics which work by binding to certain receptors in the brain, changing the way the body responds to pain. Nucynta ER also works by increasing the activity of a chemical messenger in the brain called norepinephrine.

This medication comes in tablet form and is usually taken every 12 hours, with or without food.

Common side effects of Nucynta ER are constipation, nausea, and sleepiness. Nucynta ER can cause dizziness or sleepiness, especially when taken with alcohol. Do not drive a car or operate machinery if you have these symptoms.
