Proleukin is a type of drug known as biosynthetic interleukin-2.  It causes your body to make more white blood cells.  White blood cells detect and destroy harmful substances in the body, including cancer cells.

 

This medication comes in an injectable form to be given directly into a vein (IV) by a healthcare provider.  The usual treatment is a 15-minute injection every 8 hours, 5 days in a row, followed by a rest period of 9 days, and then another injection cycle of 5 days.

 

Common side effects of Proleukin include nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, and weakness.
