Propecia Overview

Propecia (generic: finasteride) is a prescription medication used to treat male pattern baldness. Propecia belongs to a group of drugs called 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors, which block the conversion of testosterone to DHT. DHT causes hair follicles to deteriorate, so by reducing the amount of DHT, Propecia can stop hair loss.

This medication comes in tablet form and is taken once a day, with or without food.

Common side effects of Propecia include decrease in sex drive, trouble getting or keeping an erection, and a decrease in the amount of semen.
