Protonix
Protonix Overview

Protonix (generic: pantoprazole) is a prescription medication used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It is also used to treat Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome. Protonix belongs to a group of drugs called proton pump inhibitors. It works by decreasing the amount of acid made in the stomach.

This medication comes in tablet and granule packet forms. It is usually taken once or twice daily, with or without food. Granules should be taken 30 minutes before a meal.

Common side effects of Protonix include headache, diarrhea, and nausea.
