Qsymia (generic: phentermine/topiramate) is a prescription medication used to help adults lose weight.  Qsymia comes as a capsule containing two prescription drugs, phentermine and topiramate.  Phentermine belongs to a group of drugs called anorectics, which decrease appetite by increasing blood concentrations of an appetite-regulating hormone called leptin.  Topiramate belongs to a group of drugs called anticonvulsants, which are often prescribed for epilepsy and migraine headaches, but in this case the medication may increase the feeling of being full and make foods taste less appealing.

This medication comes in capsule form and is taken once a day in the morning, with or without food.

Some of the common side effects of Qsymia include numbness or tingling, dizziness, and changes in taste.
