Rectiv (generic: nitroglycerin) is a prescription medicine used to treat moderate to severe pain caused by chronic (long-lasting) anal fissures, tears in the skin lining the anal canal. Rectiv belongs to a group of drugs called nitrate vasodilators. It works by relaxing smooth muscle in the anus and by expanding blood vessels in the area to allow more blood flow.

This medication comes as an ointment to be applied in the anal canal twice daily for up to three weeks.
