Silenor (generic: doxepin) is a prescription medication used to treat adults who have difficulty staying asleep.

Silenor belongs to the group of drugs called hypnotics.  It is believed to work by altering chemical signals in the brain.

This medication comes in tablet form and is usually taken once daily at bedtime.

Common side effects of Silenor include sleepiness, nausea and upset stomach.

This medication may cause drowsiness.  Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how Silenor affects you.
