Sustiva Overview
Sustiva (generic: efavirenz) is a prescription medication used to treat infection with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Sustiva must be taken with other anti-HIV medicines. Sustiva belongs to a group of drugs called non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs), which work by stopping the virus from replicating, lowering the amout of HIV in the blood.
This medication comes in tablet and capsule forms and is taken by mouth once daily, on an empty stomach.
Common side effects of Sustiva include dizziness, drowsiness, upset stomach, and rash.
