Symbyax Overview

Symbyax (generic: olanzapine/fluoxetine) is a prescription medication used to treat depression for which other treatments have not worked. It is also used to treat depression linked to bipolar disorder. It is a single capsule containing two medications, olanzapine and fluoxetine. Olanzapine belongs to a group of drugs called antipsychotics and fluoxetine is an antidepressant. Together these drugs affect brain chemicals involved in maintaining mental balance and regulating mood.

This medication comes in capsule form and is taken once a day in the evening, with or without food.
Common side effects of Symbyax include dry mouth, tiredness, sleeping for a long period of time, and increased appetite.
