Xofigo (generic: radium Ra 223 dichloride) is a prescription medication used to treat prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of the body and has become resistant to other treatments. This is also known as metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). Specifically, Xofigo is approved to treat this type of cancer that has spread to the bones but not to other organs.

Xofigo is an alpha particle-emitting radioactive therapeutic agent which binds with minerals in the bone to deliver radiation directly to bone tumors, limiting the damage to the surrounding normal tissues.

This medication comes in the form of a liquid to be injected directly into a vein (IV) by a healthcare provider. It is usually given once a month.

Common side effects of Xofigo in clinical trials include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, and swelling of the leg, ankle, or foot.
