Zosyn (generic: piperacillin/tazobactam) is a prescription medication used to treat moderate to severe bacterial infections of the stomach, skin, and lungs. It is used to treat gynecological infections. It contains 2 medications, piperacillin and tazobactam.

Piperacillin belongs to a group of drugs called penicillin antibiotics, which help stop the growth of bacteria. Tazobactam belongs to a group of drugs called beta lactamase inhibitors, which work by preventing bacteria from destroying piperacillin.

This medication is available in an injectable form to be given directly into a vein (IV) by a healthcare professional.

Common side effects of Zosyn include diarrhea, headache, and constipation. Zosyn can cause dizziness. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how Zosyn affects you.
