Boston Has Made the Top 100 Cities of 2023 List – Here’s What’s in It for Tourists

The United States boasts many wonderful cities scattered across its vastness, each of them with its own distinct character and features, so as an avid traveler, you will find yourself both spoilt for choice and battling a huge dilemma when choosing which city to visit first. But if you don’t want to spend too much time weighing your options, we suggest you start with Boston and we’ll tell you why.

Last year, Boston was designated as one of the best big cities to live in the U.S. by the Condé Nast Reader’s Choice Awards, after being voted by nearly 250,000 readers who participated in the survey. This year, Boston received an even greater title, being ranked 36 in the top 100 cities of 2023 by Resonance Consultancy.

The evaluation is based on a combination of factors grouped into six categories – place, product, programming, people, prosperity and promotion – and it appears Boston scored high on all of them. Both visitors and locals praise Boston for its culture, attractions, airport connectivity, thriving business scene and educated workforce.

But are these rankings truly reflective of the city’s potential as a tourist destination? Most will say it is, and if you’re not yet convinced, here are a few good reasons to book your tickets, reserve your space at the Logan Airport parking, and fly down to Boston at your earliest convenience.

Experience the spirit of America

Although Boston has a very modern appeal to it, its essence and identity are deeply rooted in the past. Filled with an abundance of historic and cultural landmarks, there’s no other city in the US that captures the spirit of America quite like Boston. Sanding witness to many historical events that have shaped the fate of the country, Boston has been aptly named the Cradle of Liberty or Cradle of Modern America.

So, if you enjoy uncovering traces of the past, a trip to Boston is going to feel like a walk down history lane, where every corner of the city writes another page in the nation’s story. The iconic Freedom Trail will give you the opportunity to take a step back in time and explore the city’s most important landmarks, including churches, museums, meeting houses, burial grounds and other locations that bear great historic significance.

A delight for your taste buds

Boston has earned a reputation as America’s seafood capital and not only because of its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. Here’s where you’re going to taste the best clam chowder – made with local surf clams, rich cream and hand-cut potatoes – as well as delicious oyster and lobster dishes.

However, Boston has a lot more to offer than seafood in terms of culinary delight. The city has a rich food culture, with many of the local dishes having noticeable international influences reminding of its colonial history.

This creates a feast of ingredients, flavors, and dishes from Italian-inspired desserts to American comfort foods that are hard to resist. You’ll find a great variety of restaurants and food places scattered across the city covering all imaginable cuisines, so even the pickiest of eaters will be able to find something to suit their preferences.

Spectacular skylines

As we’ve already mentioned, beyond its historic character, Boston is quite the epitome of modernity as a global hub for education, innovation, and research. This makes Boston a lively and vibrant city with a very specific charm that you won’t find anywhere else.

As with any other metropolitan area, Boston can also be somewhat crowded, having one of the busiest airports in the Northeastern United States. However, there are plenty of useful services that can make Boston Logan Airport parking feel a bit less stressful for travelers.

But once you get used to the hustle and bustle, and lift your eyes above the crowds, you’ll notice Boston has one of the most remarkable skylines you’ll ever see on American soil. What makes Boston’s vista so unique is the eclectic blend of old and new buildings that stand side by side, towering over rows of trees and cobblestone streets, making it seem as if different eras have collided in this unique spot. So, no matter what itinerary you choose, Boston’s views are going to provide a feast for the eyes and soul.

Green all around

In Boston, city life doesn’t limit to concrete or brick buildings and long winding roads, although they contribute to the city’s unique appeal. But what makes Boston so different from other urban areas is its vast green spaces that provide a chance to breathe fresh air and take a break from the commotion that fills the city streets.

If you put all the parks and public gardens in the city together, you get over seven miles of green spaces. In fact, most of these parks are interconnected, forming the Emerald Necklace, which includes the Riverway, the Back Bay Fens, Jamaica Pond, Olmstead Park and the Arnold Arboretum among others. So, if you find yourself overwhelmed by the city’s many attractions and want to enjoy a bit of quiet time, you have a huge urban oasis at your disposal.

The ultimate student city

Boston is not just a great tourist destination, but also a world-renowned academic center and an ideal place for launching a successful career. Boston and the surrounding metropolitan area are home to over 50 colleges and universities, including the world-renowned Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where students from all over the country and from abroad come to study.

So, even if you have no intentions of enrolling in an educational program, it’s still quite interesting to check out the campuses and visit these world-class institutions where so many brilliant personalities have passed through.

As you can see, Boson hasn’t landed on the best cities in the world list for nothing and the reasons to visit it abound. So, whenever you’re ready, Boston awaits.
